Southampton pulled off a shock win in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Sunday when they defeated hosts Fulham 1-0, and Tonda Eckert wants his side to use the victory as motivation for the remainder of the campaign.

The Saints were under fire for much of Sunday's match as expected, with their Premier League hosts dictating the play and creating more of the scoring opportunities. Southampton held firm throughout the match however, and they found their breakthrough in stoppage time when Ross Stewart converted a penalty kick to lift the EFL Championship side to victory.

Eckert, Southampton's 33-year-old head coach who took on the role in November, felt that his side did enough to have an early lead but ultimately earned a fair result at Craven Cottage.

"[It's] not so easy when you play a good first half and you feel you should be winning at half-time but aren't," Eckert told BBC Sport. "Fulham have the quality and we had to accept the game where it was and in the end it was very well deserved."

Focus for the Saints now turns back to the Championship, where they are in eighth place and pushing for a promotion play-off spot with 11 matches left to play. Eckert hopes that Sunday's morale-boosting result serves as impetus for the team to push on towards their goals, which includes several more fixtures at England's most famous venue.

"If everything goes well we can play three games at Wembley this year," Eckert said. "Just need to use this game as fuel for the games coming up."
