Hartlepool got back to winning ways in the National League by beating Forest Green Rovers 2-1 at the Prestige Group Stadium.
Pools’ four-game winless streak, when they failed to find the back of the net, had ended their play-off hopes, with Rovers, who have taken 10 points from the last available 12, sealing a top-seven spot.
It was announced on Friday that head coach Nicky Featherstone will step down as Pools manager at the end of the season and first-half goals from Adam Campbell and Reiss McNally helped them to victory.
After Jordan Moore-Taylor had a goal chalked off for a foul in he build-up for the visitors, Campbell put Hartlepool ahead in the 35th minute with a first-time strike from Alex Reid’s cutback from the left.
McNally leapt highest to head past Rovers goalkeeper Harry Isted from Jamie Miley’s cross in first-half stoppage time.
Kyle McAllister pulled one back for Robbie Savage’s side in the 90th minute from the edge of the box but it was too little, too late.
