The Republic of Ireland haven't had too much to shout about in recent years, with the national team failing to qualify for a major tournament since Euro 2016. 

This season, they begin a new era under Heimir Hallgrímsson with a squad full of young players looking to make their mark in the famous green shirts. 

Someone who knows all about representing Ireland is Ian Harte, who won 64 caps for his country, and speaking exclusively to thanks to Free Bets , the former defender has earmarked the player who he believes will spearhead the next generation. 

"The best one that stands out is probably Evan Ferguson," said Harte. 

"Obviously, he's been injured, he's coming back, there's a lot of pressure on his shoulders as he's the one who's probably playing the most within the Premier League and it's important his own teammates help him out. 

"People expect him to score goals in every single game and lead by example, but he's a young lad and only so much he can do, and we need to take the pressure off him."
