Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is preparing to leave the club after a trophy-filled 10 years.

According to talkSPORT, sources in the North West have revealed that Guardiola will end his tenure at the Etihad Stadium following the conclusion of this season.

If the Spaniard does decide to bring his time at City to an end, it will be the end of an era after winning 15 trophies, his latest coming on Sunday with a 2-0 victory over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final.

Guardiola cup final celebrations suggest hint about future

In a season where City have been stuttering, there has been a question as to whether Guardiola still has the passion to bring more trophies to City with his contract set to expire in 2027.

However, you would not think that, judging by the way he celebrated both goals against Arsenal at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

Guardiola celebrated Nico O'Reilly's second by kicking the advertising hoarding, and it's an image which shows there is still life in the 55-year-old despite his team being written off by many to chase Arsenal down in the Premier League title race.

Speaking after the trophy lift, Guardiola proved that he is still invested in City and bringing every possible piece of silverware to the trophy cabinet.

"If I cannot celebrate in the moment against that team with the way we are playing… emotions are related to the way we are playing," Guardiola said.

"It's proof I'm not yet artificial intelligence. I'm a human being, and I can celebrate. I want to celebrate. It's not to not respect Arsenal; I just like to celebrate with my people. Always, I'm a human being and have emotions and when I feel it, like when I shout to the referees or celebrate, I express it."

Ultimate Tier - heavyweight season

It's well documented the stress Guardiola puts himself under as a manager, both mentally and physically, and often chooses to not eat before big matches.

So when it comes to deciding his future, it comes down to whether he is willing to continue putting himself through the trials and tribulations, along with being able to have the players in place to carry out his vision.

This season has been one of transition as City attempt to find the names to fill the void left by the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and John Stones, the latter two names are heavily linked to moves away this summer.

The football being played by this current City side may be more direct, and not so pleasing on the eye, but Guardiola is confident he can get this team to fulfil his tactical vision.

"I am truly convinced this is the way I like to see my teams play. Of course, you have to reinvent, there are new tendencies.

"But I always believe that you can do it — just do it better. Last season, we could not do it and sometimes this season, we cannot do it."

If Guardiola is showing optimism for the future, then may be those rumours of a summer exit could be premature.

Who could replace Guardiola after City exit?

No one really knows Guardiola's next move. His previous contract extensions have always been kept well under wraps, and it will be the same regarding his decision to leave despite recent reports.

One thing is for certain however, a succession plan will already be in place for Guardiola's eventual exit, with director of football Hugo Viana at the head of it.

There is an assumption a 'Guardiola Disciple' will be brought in. Former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, a previous assistant to Guardiola has supposedly been in contact with City's hierarchy, in a move which ultimately saw his time at Stamford Bridge come to an end.

If Maresca is not on the table, there could be a return in the form of club legend and Bayern Munich Vincent Kompany, with City fans hoping for a reunion ever since the Belgian stepped into management with Anderlecht in 2019.
