It wasn't a win, but Manchester City's 2-2 draw at West Ham United pushed the club ever closer to the 2021-22 Premier League title.

The Sky Blues were forced to overcome a two-goal deficit against the scrappy hosts, who soaked up unending pressure and hit with clinical precision on the few chances they were afforded.

Thus, despite being heavily outchanced and outpossessed, the Hammers were control at halftime thanks to a pair of goals from Jarrod Bowen. The 25-year-old struck in the 24th and 45th minutes with what would end up as West Ham's only two shots on target of the entire match, giving the hosts a 2-0 lead at the halftime break.

The two-goal deficit wasn't insurmountable for City though, and in the 49th minute Jack Grealish hit a volley from the top of the penalty area that went through a defender's legs before bouncing over goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski. The Sky Blues continued to hunt for an equaliser and in the 69th minute a floated Riyad Mahrez free kick into the 18-yard box was headed in to his own net by West Ham defender Vladimír Coufal.

Mahrez would then have a direct go at goal himself in the 86th minute after the Hammers gave up a penalty for a foul on Gabriel Jesus. On the ensuing spot-kick, Mahrez's shot went to Fabianski's left but didn't have enough on it to beat the 'keeper.

That was all City could muster in terms of attack, despite accumulating 31 shots over the course of the game, and they had to settle for the draw.

However, the result puts Pep Guardiola's side four points up on second-place Liverpool, meaning a loss by the Reds on Tuesday at Southampton would cement City as league champions.
