Marco Silva says no decision made on his future after Fulham draw at Wolves

Fulham boss Marco Silva insisted he had not made a decision on his future after his side’s European hopes were all but extinguished by Sunday’s 1-1 draw at relegated Wolves.

The visitors managed to get themselves on level terms when Antonee Robinson equalised from the spot in first-half stoppage time, after referee Thomas Kirk gave a penalty for Mateus Mane’s late challenge on Timothy Castagne following a VAR review.

Wolves had taken the lead through Mane as they sought a first victory since beating Liverpool on March 3.

Silva is out of contract at the end of the season and has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs as well as Benfica.

“I will not say something if the decision is not made,” the 48-year-old Portuguese said. “What can I communicate to the people if I haven’t decided?

“I said I’m going to meet with the board, we are going to analyse, we are going to say some important things which will be crucial to the club’s future in the way I want the club to move.

“And after (that), the decision is going to be made.

“All the other decisions are going to come, we are going to have some meetings. It is a moment for the club to address many things, it’s one of the most important summers in this football club.”

Fulham are three points behind eighth-placed Brentford, with one game to play and with an inferior goal difference, meaning their hopes of securing European football for next season are all but over.

Silva expressed his disappointment at losing ground in the fight to play in a continental competition next season.

He added: “It was a must-win game for us to keep some hopes to fight for European places.

“Second half was not good enough, simple as that. We did not create many clear chances.

“The future of the club, I completely understand. But I was focused on what I wanted to give to the fans at the end of the season, it’s not going to be possible.”

Wolves’ next competitive league game at Molineux will come in the Championship, with pockets of fans showing their discontent over this season by booing boss Rob Edwards on his lap of appreciation.

Edwards said the reaction came as no surprise, and pointed to big changes in the summer.

“I thought the response was expected, a few boos at first but then a lot of people showed their understanding the longer I stood there,” he said.

“There is a lot of frustration and anger around. It’s down to us to prove to them that we are heading in the right direction.

“The situation is horrible, the season as a whole. If you look at our results since Christmas at home – it’s not horrendous, in challenging circumstances, but it’s away that’s been a problem.

“There are changes needed. I came in and we had a bit of pre-season in the middle of the season, bottom line is we have not been good enough.”
