Michael Skubala frustrated after Lincoln’s draw with Bolton

Michael Skubala was left frustrated after promotion challengers Lincoln were held to a 1-1 draw against Bolton.

The Imps thought they had wrapped up a fifth straight win after Jack Moylan’s first-half strike.

But Sam Dalby’s late header secured the third-placed Trotters a draw at Sincil Bank.

Skubala’s side maintained their six-point cushion over their promotion rivals, but they missed a number of glaring chances as Jack Bonham produced a spirited performance in goal.

And Imps boss Skubala said: “I thought it was a huge battle.

“I think when we go and watch our chances back that we’ll be frustrated we didn’t get a second.

“You know when you’re facing a side like Bolton that you’re going to have to weather a storm and we did until the very end when they scored.

“It’s a great performance. It’s probably one of our best performances of the season even though we didn’t get three points.

“We’re probably the more frustrated of the two with the way it finished.

“We knew we could hurt them and the reality of it is we should have scored a few more.

“We’ve hit the crossbar, hit the post. We are frustrated because we thought we were good enough to get the three points.

“He made some great saves, a lot of saves. When you come up against Bolton and their keeper’s been one of their best players then you’ve had a good day.

“There are still 45 points to play for. There is still a long way to go in this race.

“If we play like that then we’ll get enough points because it’s a really solid performance against a very good side.”

Both teams had won four games on the spin heading into the fixture.

Bolton boss Steven Schumacher was left less than impressed with the officiating.

After the game, he said: “It was a tough game, very competitive.

“The fourth official kept agreeing with me and said he was telling him [the ref] it was a foul for four or five fouls I was asking for.

“Some of the decisions were strange. It wasn’t a great performance from the ref if I’m being honest.

“We tried to get the winner. We knew how important it was if we could win the game and close the gap.

“We haven’t managed to close the gap, but we haven’t had any damage where the gap’s got bigger either, which was critical.

“It’s a good result for us in the end because it wasn’t an easy game for us.

“Lincoln are good at what they do. We’ve managed to come away with something here away from home, which is good for us.

“I’m pleased for the lads that they got a point because they deserved it for their effort.”
