Newcastle United are open to selling striker Yoane Wissa after just one season at the club.
First reported by The Athletic, Newcastle are open to selling the 29-year-old following an underwhelming campaign with the Magpies.
For Newcastle, this a sign of frustration after a long transfer saga over the summer which saw the club finally sign Wissa on deadline day from Brentford for £55m.
To put it simply, Wissa has not been scoring goals.
Before arriving at St James' Park, Wissa scored 20 goals in all competitions for Brentford, making him an attractive attacking proposition for any club.
However, his time on Tyneside got off to the worst possible start after suffering a knee injury before his first training session with Eddie Howe's squad.
Wissa did not make his Newcastle debut until December last year against Burnley, but since then he has only managed to score three goals in 24 appearances.
For the fee and chaos that surrounded Newcastle's pursuit of Wissa, it appears to have been all for nothing.
For Newcastle, their goalscoring options have been a real struggle.
Despite Nick Woltemade's promising start, his form has dropped off a cliff, with manager Howe even playing him in midfield at times, a move which raised eyebrows and backfired.
Wissa was not only supposed to be a back-up option, but also someone who would provide Woltemade with some competition.
Instead, Wissa has not imposed himself and is now being shown the exit door.
If Wissa is indeed sold, Newcastle will find themselves back at square one with just one outright striker.
Having multiple goal threats is vital, especially for Newcastle who are wanting to finish in the European places and challenge for silverware on a regular basis.
However, with the uncertainty surrounding the ownership and how much they are willing to pump into transfers, Howe and his squad are in real danger of falling into a state of limbo.
