Port Vale boss Jon Brady calls for more support in transfer window

Port Vale manager Jon Brady has called for more support in the transfer window after a 1-0 win at Leyton Orient boosted their survival chances in League One.

Kyle John’s second-minute goal was enough for the victory, but Vale are still bottom of the table and 10 points from safety.

Brady said: “With what we’ve got at the moment, I’ve only got two strikers available and right now in the window we need support in that area.”

Speaking about forward Devante Cole leaving for Luton, Brady said: “When a player’s head was completely turned and wanted to go, we had to make sure we got the best deal possible for us.

“It was a simple as that. Our striker today was struggling up front and that leaves us in a difficult position.

“Hopefully we can resolve something soon. With all the games coming up we really need to plan ahead. When a player wanted to go as strongly as he did we just had to make sure we got the best deal.”

On the game, Brady added: “It is just a foundation, it is a start.

“I don’t think we played brilliantly, but what we did was we worked for each other and it was really connected. It can be a starting point, but you’ve got to back that up on Tuesday night.

“If we can do that it feels like you may gain ground because we’ve got two games in hand. It gives the players a bit more confidence and makes them feel they can go on a run. But they need to be consistent.”

Leyton Orient head coach Richie Wellens was disappointed with the result but put that down to Port Vale’s game plan.

Wellens said: “We started the game really poorly. Two or three people in the wrong position from the first minute. Yes, a really difficult start.

“We had more possession, but you have to understand what they came here to do. They came and sat back. And that early goal gives them something to hang on to.

“We need to show more quality, more belief. But we didn’t show that in certain areas today.”
