Brighton knew "we could win this game", says Joao Pedro, after they fought back to secure a much-needed point against Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Seagulls secured a 1-1 draw with the Gunners after the Brazil international netted from a controversial penalty call following Ethan Nwaneri's opener on the south coast.

The visitors arrived at the Amex Stadium looking for a first win since late November, but instead finished up having now gone eight games without a victory to their name.

But speaking afterwards, Pedro stressed that he feels his side can move onwards with renewed optimisim as they continue into the new year seeking further success.

“We started the game well," he told Sky Sports after the full-time whistle. "We could have won but got a point. We need to look forward.

“We conceded in the first half but knew we could win this game. We tried to score at the beginning of the second half. We wanted to win.”
