Viddal Riley will look to pass a stern test against Mateusz Masternak, a veteran gatekeeper of the cruiserweight division, on Saturday night.
The bout will serve as the co-feature to the Derek Chisora vs. Deontay Wilder headliner from London’s O2 Arena, and exclusively live on DAZN PPV . Masternak's EBU cruiserweight title will be on the line.
The undefeated Riley (13-0, 7 KOs) produced a unanimous decision win over Cheavon Clarke last April in his sole ring appearance of 2025.
He faces a 38-year-old Masternak (50-6, 33 KOs) who counts more than four times the fights in experience than Riley. The Polish fighter is riding a three-fight win streak, last defeating Joel Tambwe Djeko by seventh-round KO in October.
Will Riley make the biggest statement of his career with a convincing win over Masternak? Or will the cruiserweight vet hand the 28-year-old Riley his first loss? DAZN News examines who has the edge in this chief support matchup.
Viddal Riley uses plenty of subtle movements in setting up his shots whether feinting before unloading his punches or simply pivoting with his feet. The British fighter also wraps pointed punches around opponents’ guards quite effectively.
His style will be mashed up against the technical Mateusz Masternak who operates behind a high, tight guard with the ability to split opponents’ defenses with his jab. The Polish fighter also varies his shot selection with skill, feinting and stabbing to the body before piecing together something more piercing upstairs.
This is an interesting clash of styles where both men can get hit. The slight tilt of the needle goes to Riley for his pressure fighting forward and also boxing off the back foot.
While neither Riley nor Masternak possess glaring power, it’s there, as each man is capable of summoning some serious pop to his punch when needed — Masternak more than Riley.
Masternak finished his last fight by knockout and 33 of his 50 wins have come by stoppage.
The vet nips out Riley in this category.
Masternak touts the experience that Riley just doesn’t have, as the Polish fighter has shared the ring with superior competition such as Chris Billam-Smith, Yuniel Dorticos and Tony Bellew to name a few.
Quality rounds have given Masternak the ring savvy that Riley will need to resolve to move onto bigger challenges. That said, the aforementioned fighters in Billam-Smith, Dorticos and Bellew all found remedies to Masternak’s style before moving onto bigger and better opportunities and Riley seems hell-bent on achieving the same.
There is urgency that the British fighter has, knowing a statement win over Masternak can inch him one step closer to vying for a world title at cruiserweight.
Riley seems to be heading into this co-feature spot with a calm self-assurance about him — enough to eke out the nod in mental warfare.
If Riley wants to better position himself for a possible world title shot, he cannot afford to lose to a Masternak, who is 10 years his senior. Riley must make a statement against this potent gatekeeper toward ensuring a fruitful remainder of his 2026.
DAZN News likes him to do just that, giving him the 2-1 edge to land the more effective punches in having his hand raised in victory.
