Wardley-Dubois, Cain left to sweat, Benn baits rivals: Five things to watch out for this week

February is just over a week old, and already has sent some seismic shockwaves through the boxing world after minting a new world champion this weekend, live on DAZN.

Brandon Figueroa is top of the pile once again after turning over Nick Ball on his own turf to claim the WBA featherweight strap at Liverpool's M&S Bank Arena on Saturday.

Now, it is the calm before the storm, with just under a fortnight until Ryan Garcia challenges Mario Barrios - but there's plenty more to consider across the next seven days too.

From an all-British title bout to the fallout on Merseyside, DAZN News takes a look towards the week in boxing - and picks out the five key things to possibly keep an eye on.

Wardley and Dubois set to dance

News circled last week that both WBO heavyweight champion Fabio Wardley and ex-IBF strap holder Daniel Dubois are likely to set their next bouts for either April or May.

Queensberry Promotions boss Frank Warren floated the notion that the two could well meet for the former's strap, just days after the pursuit of Derek Chisora fell through.

Talk of a London show would be a major carrot for both men, with Wardley likely to hope his success at The O2 Arena against Joseph Parker carries over once again.

Cain in the crosshairs

Andrew Cain had a hero-to-zero moment on the biggest night of his professional career so far across the weekend, as his emotions got the better of him after the final bell.

Having climbed off the canvas to defeat Alejandro Jair Gonzalez by stoppage in his WBC bantamweight eliminator, the star then made a fool of himself after Ball's defeat.

Cain rushed into the ring and seemingly aimed a kick at a member of Figueroa's entourage amid messy scenes. The British Boxing Board of Control will surely investigate.

Benn out to bait more rivals

After leaping into the ring to confront Shakur Stevenson last month, Conor Benn remains on the lips of just about everyone who wants to give the Briton a possible hiding.

Not that it will deter 'The Destroyer', of course - and with Garcia and Barrios set to battle in Las Vegas next week, you can bet he'll be hovering around the edges there too.

Benn is the main challenger to whoever takes that WBC welterweight title home, and with plenty of others willing to put their titles up against him, he'll get a shot soon.

Ajagba and Martin enter critical dance

There's no silverware on the line, but Efe Ajagba and Charles Martin know that defeat could be one block too many to their ambitions as they touch down in Las Vegas.

The pair headline Zuffa Boxing's latest card, and are each seeking to build their credentials in a crowded heavyweight division that may well leave them on the outside.

Ajagba, still with just the one loss on his record, remains a dark horse contender, but ex-IBF title holder Martin may well be running out of road to convince the naysayers.

Will Garcia keep powder dry?

Next week will be a busy one in Sin City, with Ajagba and Martin promptly replaced by Barrios and Garcia - and the latter, in particular, has plenty to prove in the ring.

But it is the star's persona beyond it, riddled with controversy, that has driven just as much interest in the feats he achieve between the ropes across the last few years.

After his antics at the launch press conference, it remains to be seen if the star will remain focused before media engagements - or if he will light the powder keg again.
