Spain dazzled the world when they captured their first and only World Cup trophy in 2010, and they also have three European Championships to their name this century.
However, their record at the World Cup since winning it in South Africa has left much to be desired, especially as one of the sport's current powers.
The Spanish are the betting favourites to triumph in North America this summer, having gone undefeated for more than two years, but to claim football's ultimate prize they'll need to vastly improve against their recent form at the World Cup.
Since winning it all in 2010, La Roja have claimed just three victories in the three subsequent tournaments, winning one game apiece at Brazil 2014, Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022.
Conversely, Spain have drawn five matches and lost three times during that span, failing to advance past the group stage in 2014 before back-to-back last-16 exits.
No one doubts Spain's pedigree, nor their ability to win major trophies given their unmatched success at the Euros.
However, even with a more forgiving route to the knockouts at the impending World Cup, the Spanish will need to win more than one match this summer if they are to live up to their massive potential.
